Dr. Myron Wentz started USANA back in 1992. Dr. Wentz is a brilliant and well respected in the well-science arts – including immunology, microbiology and detection of dis-ease. USANA is definitely a product driven company and has seen consistent growth over their lifespan.
With 2008 revenue at a massive $429 million, that ranks Usana among the largest MLM companies in the world. Only 11 companies have ever hit that coveted 1 billion mark and USANA is gaining ground each year.. Most people who have used their products would agree that within the MLM arena, USANAs products are among the very best and they pride themselves on this distinction.
Their products compete in the multi-billion dollar wellness and nutrition industry offering nutritionals, skin care, weight loss, energy and personal care products. Theres no argument, USANA makes some incredibly good products.
Now if having a good product were the only ingredient, we would have a very different Top 20 list for largest companies. Its only a small factor, ironically. Look at McDonalds as a key example, they have everything BUT a good product.I have personally met or spoken to some of the USANA Management team and I have to say that they are competent, but also incredibly passionate about making a difference in peoples lives. Their management is solid. They are on the conservative side, but solid. If you like conservative, measured growth and a company that will be here 50 years from now, USANA may just be your ticket.
From a compensation standpoint, they are interesting. They have a binary with a bit of a twist that pays out pretty well on the front end as a new distributor and pays pretty generously up through about $25,000 a month, but the real top end income just isnt there.
For example, as I write this article, USANA has 6 people making over $1 million a year after 17 years of being in business. If you put those numbers up against MonaVie, they boast 34 millionaires in only 5 years. Thats 7 times the number of millionaires. Thats huge. How can that be Well, USANA absolutely destroys MonaVie in the numbers of people making $1,000 to $5,000 a month. Obviously, most will never get to the huge money, so the question is…who is serving people better It totally depends on your perspective. The one thing I can say about Usanas compensation is…at least they are honestly. While many of the new companies have decreased their comp plans after their launch, Usana has actually made increases over the years.
Another cleverthing they offer is the way the pay plan is designed; it incents more product consumption resulting in higher auto-ship amounts. If people order $100 a month in product, you can earn 10% on the binary. If you personally order $200 of product each month, people will earn 20% in team income. Its really clever. They have lots of great product so hitting the $200/mo is pretty easy, many do more. What that means is more volume with less people. Everyone likes to earn more for less work.
Another thing that just must be talked about is the USANA is a public company. On the onset, this looks like a good thing. Stability, trust, public acceptance, etc. The truth is though, in MLM, this isnt generally a good thing. When it comes to crunch time, who is the company committed to getting their share – the distributors or the shareholders Its challenging. I will say that for all of the public companies, USANA has done pretty well with this one, but in my opinion, Id still rather have my company be private.
One of my dear friends is one of USANAs top 25 earners. My friend has built a great business over about 6 years and she has developed a marketing system that is driven by what she most loves to do in the world and how she loves to relate to people. Listen to this clearly because its the most vital part of this entire message.
If you are going to be successful with USANA or any company in MLM, you must build your business in a way that allows your personal strengths to flourish. For example, if you are a little shy or even if you dont like putting yourself so “out there” with people in your cold market, then many of the techniques taught by traditional network marketers wont work very well for you.
I have had success using both strategies. I have enrolled many people in my warm market and I have built through attraction marketing strategies online and through direct response marketing. The reality is, learning how to harness the power of the internet just flat out gives you greater exposure. Period.
If the 3-foot rule lights you up, then more power to you. I cant stand it. I want to only speak with people who are ready to talk with me. I want to only speak with people who are actively looking for a business and ready to take action.
